The Harbour

The Harbour

It was during the “Right Now” Mission to Tiverton back in 1987 that God gave a group of Christians the vision for a local resources centre.  They met for prayer early every Wednesday morning to ask for His help and guidance.

It became evident that what was needed was a place where Christians could obtain materials for outreach - including Bibles, books, greeting cards, music and gifts - and at the same time provide somewhere they could meet in a relaxed atmosphere, and take non-Christian friends away from the usual church surroundings.

Working on the kitchen - August 1988  still a long way to go!

Getting the Coffee Shop ready for opening

For the first few years the Coffee Shop was at the front of the shop.

In the Beginning .... (part 1)

Eventually 58 Bampton Street became available and it became clear that God was guiding the group to open a Christian book and coffee shop to serve the people of Tiverton and surrounding areas.  That was the easy part. Now that they had the premises and the vision, the hard work of turning it into reality had to be tackled.

The shop was in a dreadful state and had to be thoroughly cleaned before any work could begin.  Then came the work of planning the layout, fitting out the shop, café and kitchen and redecoration throughout.

Next came stocking the shop, working out menus for the café and finding enough volunteers to staff it five days a week.
